English:
Due to ongoing snowfall in Reykjavik and surrounding municipalities, people are strongly advised to stay home and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. A yellow weather warning is currently in effect for the region but will be upgraded to an orange warning at 17:00/5 p.m. today. Continued heavy snowfall or sleet is expected, with poor visibility. Those who left home this morning, are urged to return as soon as possible (ideally before 15:00/3 p.m.), as road and weather conditions are only expected to worsen as the day goes on. Significant travel disruptions are likely to continue, and people are encouraged to exercise caution and keep up to date with weather forecasts. Today is the day to stay inside and keep warm—not to venture out and risk getting stuck in traffic!
Parents of preschool and primary school children are asked to pick up their children before 2:30 PM today.
People are asked not to seek non-essential services today that can easily wait, such as swimming pools and libraries, and such facilities are encouraged to close for the day. Essential services, such as healthcare institutions and various welfare services, will continue to operate.
Once again, drivers of poorly equipped vehicles are strictly advised not to be on the roads in these severe winter conditions. Despite repeated warnings, many such cases have been reported today, causing considerable problems. Vehicles that are inadequately equipped will be towed at the owner’s expense. However, the best course of action for everyone—regardless of vehicle equipment—is simply to stay home while the storm passes.
